Mistletoe and Martini’s
Oh by gosh, oh by golly, it’s time for Mistletoe and Alco-holly
Chocolate Peppermint Martini
If you are a chocolate lover like me, who always wants to try those seasonal drinks with all of the special rims and drizzles boy do I have a couple of good recipes for you. Before we get into that, lets talk Liqueur. I feel like a well stocked liquor cabinet will include a variety of different liqueur’s for those perfect specialty cocktails. For the holidays there are some must have’s like a fine chocolate liqueur ( I like Godiva dark chocolate reserve) but this can be difficult to find and fairly pricey; especially for something your are going to mix with a ton of other things. Another option which can be easily found at Total Wine and is also very good and more reasonably priced is the Borgata Chocolate Liqueur. You will need a Creme de Cacao, peppermint schnapps and a flavored Vodka. Smirnoff has a number to chose from like Vanilla or Whipped Cream. Finally you will need an Irish Liqueur like Baileys. I used 5 Farms Irish Liqueur because that is what I had on hand, but honestly this is a very good and very fine Irish Cream Liqueur and while I would highly recommend it, it might get lost in the mix. Now, if you are one of those people who insists on only quality ingredients then I would say cost be damned…go for it. If you are looking for 5 Farms, you might want to check Trader Joes first as I have found the price there to be better than most of the large liquor warehouses like Total Wine and More. To Rim my glasses I used a white chocolate liqueur for moistening the rim and then dipped the rim in a plate full of crushed peppermint candies. I added a fun dark chocolate drizzle inside the glass using Ghirardelli Chocolate Syrup. I have found that preparing my glasses ahead of time and placing them in the refrigerator to keep them cool also assists in setting the chocolate drizzle so it will hold its place and shape when you fill the glass with your prepared martini. I am a firm believer in making your own whip cream, it tastes better and is so simple to make; that said, Whip Shots offers a variety whip creams in a can that have been vodka infused and they are sure to add a special touch to your specialty cocktail.
